"Local Difficulty" is a hidden stat in the game that, along with the game's standard difficulty (easy, hard etc), determines the game's hardness. This makes zombies spawn with gear more often, spiders have potion effects, and other minor changes that make the game harder. It depends on the total age of your world the time a chunk has been loaded (both with a max value), and the moon phase.
However, it tipically does not make it much harder, since sleeping brings this number down, and, from my experience playing a lot in the same world, it does not seem to greatly affect the difficulty of the game. I propose that this stat is reworked. I want the game to get harder as time goes on.
Once enough time has elapsed, I want to see mobs with chain or even iron armor spawn much more commonly, mobs with enchanted swords, and all the changes that local difficulty affects being more common, especially if the actual game difficulty is in hard mode. Ideally, it should be such that a player in maxed gear can die to mobs if he/she is not careful with their life and acts too recklessly (but not if you are decently careful like eating when you're bellow 85% hunger)
