As everyone knows, some aspects of Minecraft are inspired by real life. I think these suggestions could be a good part of the game.
I believe that it is still realistic to think we could create brown dye from pitcher pods as it is quite usual in real life to obtain a dye from seeds.
Equally reasonable is the possibility of crafting black dye from coal as use of coal in the manufacture of dyes is nothing new.
It would also be possible to make new charcoal based dye color, perhaps something between cyan and grey, (or just simply make it produce black dye ;) )
Brown and black dyes have severe restrictions in the ways they can be obtained and such simplifications would greatly improve the crafting process as it would focus on what is done in real life.
It is definitely evident that these crafting recipes would give better ways to obtain some dyes or at least the brown dyes which is not realy possible to automate. Coming to black dye, coal could be a reasonable alternative, as coal has been used for making dyes or pigments in real life. With the inclusion of these new methods, it would be possible to make brown dye farming relatively less boring
