Issue: While browsing the Minecraft Marketplace for a texture pack to use in my survival world, I found that many of them lack clear information regarding which version of the game they were designed for. Often, they are multiple updates behind or the version isn't displayed at all.
This situation is comparable to shopping for snacks at a grocery store where none of the items have expiration dates, or they’re all expired. In that case, I would leave without buying anything—which is what I’ve ended up doing. Although I’m interested in some of the more unique texture packs with custom models, I hesitate to purchase them due to uncertainty about their compatibility with the latest version of the game.
Proposed Solutions:
- Version Transparency: Require all texture packs and mashups to clearly indicate the version of Minecraft they were created for, allowing consumers to make informed decisions before purchasing.
- Update Requirements: Encourage partners to regularly update their packs to ensure compatibility with the current version. If a product becomes outdated, it should be temporarily hidden from the marketplace until it is updated.
Rationale: These changes would reduce outdated content on the marketplace and incentivize partners to keep their products up to date. Consumers would benefit from knowing exactly what they are purchasing, leading to greater trust in the marketplace and an overall better user experience.
