Armor trims have been a great addition to the game. Being able to decorate and customize your armor is perfect for creatively expressing yourself.
However, this creativity is limited by the fact that diamond and netherite armor is the best armor, which means that most players "only" have 10 colors to add to their black/blue armor. There are all these possible color combinations using leather, iron and gold armor, which very few people realistically use. Trims could be an amazing way to add uniforms to the game, good for multiplayer and roleplay.
An example of this would be Terraria. You can have a set of armor that protects you and another decorative armor set on top of that.
You could dye leather armor in all the colors and put it on top of netherite, enabling the creation of faction armor that actually protects you. Imagine a group of players in fully red or green dyed armor.
A problem with this is that you wouldnt be able to tell whether someone is actually wearing leather/gold or something else. There should probably be some kind of indication, perhaps a particle effect, an outline or glow to the gear, an underlined nametag in multiplayer, slightly altered colors when it's aesthetic... Or leave it as a surprise for whoever decides to attack the player.
This feature could be added either by making second slots next to existing armor slots (which might be too much clutter) or as some mods do, make the decorative armor slot appear when hovering over the ones we have right now. The secondary armor set would not lose durability or lose durability at the same rate as the main armor, making them break at the same time.
