Now that minecart improvements are being looked at and worked on, we should discuss how to buff powered rails. I'm thinking that the redstone strength of the powered rails can accelerate a minecart up to the blocks traveling per second equalling the powered rail speed. If the redstone strength is 15, the minecart accelerates up untill speed equals 15. If the power level is zero, the cart decelerates down to 0.
But what if we want to go faster.
- Have the redstone power to power rail speed be exponential. 0 is 0, 1 is 1, 3 is 8 etc
- Have the redstone power to power rail speed be scaler. 0 is 0, 1 is 2, 3 is 6 etc
But my favorite method:
- Have powered rails allow 2 redstone inputs like a comparator. Since redstone strength represents a 4 bit integer (0-15). You could treat the second input as an extra 4 bits (16-255) to allow a large range of speed. This would make minecarts the most fast method of travel and make them more fun to play around with.
A way to determine which redstone signal would be each bit chunk would be indicated with a visible texture on the rail. Say any redstone signal would be the first chunk and if a second is present, it would have to be fed in the designated spot. But all that is needed to be know by most players is that 2 redstone torches either side of the rail would make it go very zoom, 1 redstone torch would make it 2x zoom than in earlier versions of the game with the slow 8 tiles per second.
