In the interest of making the choices of armor upgrading more personal and meaningful overall (and less overpowered,) the protection enchantment should be removed from the game. It would he much more interesting if players had to choose between the other more specific forms of protection (projectile, fire, and blast) when customizing their armor sets. That would also have the effect of dramatically changing personal fighting-styles. Blast protection users could freely use tnt in combat. Fire users could use fire charges and lava buckets without worrying about damaging themselves. Projectile protection users would have an advantage at fighting from a distance.
