Currently, a large issue of rail travel is its non-competitive with other travel methods. However, replacing current powered rails could disrupt very specific redstone timings and build intentions.
I propose having 3 different powered rails
1. Gold Powered Rail : A rail that travels at 30 blocks per second, putting it on par with a powered elytra. It would utilize the current powered rail recipe. The current (unintended) dereailing mechanic would act as a good balancing feature for this.
2. Iron Powered Rail : A rail that goes the current speed of powered rails. for all intents and purposes it is just a name and recipe change for existing powered rails. Currently existing powered rails could be converted into the iron variant, to cause no damage to current builds.
3. Copper Powered Rail : A Powered Rail using copper, it goes slightly slower than iron powered rails, but can be used on turns.
The different variants could both slow down and raise minecarts to their speed, giving a large amount of control to rail networks that currently isnt available.
Different variants could also not power each other, allowing specific sections to be powered individually without standard rail gaps between them.
