Dear Mojang,
I propose a simple solution to the issue of the new piston sound, that I'm sure can make both you and the community happy.
1. The piston sound stays the same by default
2. You can craft a new silent piston variant by combining wool and a piston in the crafting grid. It will than produce the new sound
3. If a normal piston is in direct contact with a wool block, it also produces the new sound. This will add a new dimension of interactivity to the game
4. If a silent piston is also in contact with a wool block, it produces no sound whatsoever. That would allow the players to create whole new level of seamless redstone contraptions.
Arguments for this approach:
No assets go to waste and you don't need to develop a whole new sound to allow pistons to not be so overwhelming in this regard, while keeping the community happy.
Any old player who just isn't interested in the new sound, doesn't need to worry about it at all.
Players would still have the opportunity to create way more silent readstone contraptions pretty easily.
More interactivity is just more opportunity for fun.
Just think of all the applications of completely silent redstone for adventure maps and cool MP bases.
I wish you a great day and good luck with further game development.
