The shield was added a long time ago. His mechanics are very useful, but he doesn't do anything other than defend. I suggest adding a craft shield and armadillo scales. Such a shield will be better protected, arrows will fly further, and if you raise the shield during critical damage, the enemy will be thrown back and deal half a heart of damage.
