I’ve been playing Minecraft mobile for years, and I’ve gotten so used to the controls, that this update has felt essentially unplayable. I couldn’t hope to do anything remotely competitive, because everything is wonky now.
In terms on the control “customization” I can’t even bring the already downgraded D-pad further down on the screen. Why? Because the D-pad is treated like a square rather than a plus; causing it to be blocked by the red no-zone. So now, with about 8 years of habits, I constantly find myself missing the buttons because I like to use the D-pad on the bottom left of the screen, not the middle left!
“Downgraded, what do you mean by that?” I miss being able to press the jump button in flight. I miss being able to press it in water or on a ladder or in scaffolding. Just because it didn’t always do something, didn’t mean it was useless in these cases. It was good for when you wanted to anticipate a jump, and for enabling and disabling flight in creative.
I’ve also noticed that, with the new D-pad, when I slide my finger from the forward movement button to the jump button in quick, repetitive, succession (to run-jump) sometimes the run cancels out.
I just want to play again, but I, yes a minority, just can’t seriously get back into Minecraft.
Please allow the old controls with all their options to become available. Maybe at the bottom on the controls menu with a switch for “classic mobile controls” which would enable those old options and disable the new ones.
