    waxing gives the player a choice on the piston. the old piston sound works well to where you know its firing in standard contraptions. waxting it to make it silent be the best option. cause if someone makes something that needs to be silent but its in a setting. it wont work how they would want it to. since multiplayer wouldnt all be the same settings.

    I love the new piston sound. They sound like a well-maintained machine. I've avoided using them due to their obnoxious omnipresence. I understand them being loud when they were first developed - a novelty at the time. Now with machines requiring dozens of them, I'm glad they've been 'oiled'.

    Maybe you could waterlog pistons to make them silent sorta like how skulk sensors work. This could work well because it the new sound sounds a bit like a component underwater. To avoid water and redstone incompatibility, they could make the water logged pistons self-contained so they wouldn't spill out and destroying redstone.

    maybe when a piston has not been used in a long time it makes a screeching noise

    why not add oil so iron golems move faster and pistons are quieter
