Note: This is a post on how weather occurs. For new weather events, have a look at posts like this one: https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/16553940345357-Add-A-weather-Update-please
Introduction
Now, the current weather system is great; you've got clear, rain, thunder, and even snow, and it can't precipitate in hot biomes. However, a few aspects are a little wacky:
- When it rains, it rains everywhere (except hot biomes)
- It can rain regardless of whether it has a cloud to rain from or not
- Lightning isn't linked to clouds at all
I don't want to complain, but these are definitely things that can be improved on. That's where my proposed new weather system comes in.
New cloud behavior
- Generally, clouds would form above water. As they pass over other bodies of water, they would grow in size and weight.
- A cloud would have three weight stages that progress as it collects more water: Light, Damp, and Soaked, each one darker than the last.
- Once a cloud reaches the Soaked stage, rain (or snow, if in a cold biome) would begin to fall for a certain amount of time.
- Clouds will block out the sun and reduce the sky light level to some extent.
New lightning behavior
- A cloud could randomly be a "storm cloud."
- Lightning would come from them, rooted to the cloud.
- Summoned lightning would still be rooted to the sky.
Conclusion
This would be great to add because:
- It would pave the way for more weather events
- Players above cloud level would be safe
I hope you like this!
