I get that you (Mojang) want to make money from your game, and so do the developers of Marketplace content for your game, but adding this as a feature wouldn't be bad by any means.
It'd allow people who actually have the spare cash to pay for the content they like, while the people who don't have the spare cash won't have to pay if they can't afford to
It'd also incentivize Marketplace content creators to make actually good content rather than constantly copying others like some of the top/featured/recommended creators tend to do.
In addition to this, the option to pay should remain on the Marketplace page for the content in question, even if you've already obtained the content for free or for Minecoins, since it'd be an option to donate later if you're really enjoying the content that they provided.
Reasonably, people could still impose a minimum payment with this system, like say forcing people to pay at least 160 Minecoins to actually obtain it, but no more than that is required, and instead people can just choose when/if they'd like to pay more and by how much.
Platforms like Gumroad already have a similar system in place, and they thrive on it, so I don't see why something similar couldn't be done here.
