I'm not sure where you would find portals to the Deathplane, but one thing I know about entry: the portal is always active; the twist is that it won't always let you through. It only lets those with a close connection to death enter. This means that only undead, wardens, and players of level 30 and higher (and in creative mode) can enter.
Once you go through, you will find a harsh landscape with vast deserts of soul sand, soil, and fire, extensive forests with hundreds of petrified trees, and snowfields with almost nothing but powder snow for miles.
All undead mobs from other dimensions spawn here, in addition to wraiths from Minecraft Dungeons and a new mob with a pun for a name: the spirit animal. Spirit animals are ghostly variants of mobs that are animals from the real world with higher health, attack power, and speed. All are neutral and drop 1 xp for each item their living form would drop.
Here are some general rules for the Deathplane:
- All fire there is soul fire no matter what.
- If players use levels to drop below level 30 in the dimension, they get nausea until they leave or reach level 30 again.
- Petrified trees require pickaxes to mine.
