Currently End Gateways look at a 11 x 11 square starting from Y level 255 and going down to see where to spawn the player. I have two different ideas on how to change it.
-
Make the Gateways look at the Y level of the actual portal "block" and below first. If there isn't a block below the portal to spawn the player at, start moving up to try and find a block.
-
Make the Gateways follow mob spawning rules. If there's a bottom slab, carpet, or transparent block, don't spawn the player there and keep moving down.
Will this change help anyone but me? Maybe, not sure how popular End bases are. But it would mean more people could build bases "in the wild part of the End".
Will it harm anyone elses builds? I've tried to think of reasons people might build outside of the main End Island and can't think of a reason where it'd cause harm. No reason to build a mob farm out there and other farms you probably want to spawn closer to anyway.(The main reason I'm making this post is that I've built an End base and use a Gateway as my way of entering it. I built a building around the Gateway and only afterwards realized I will now always spawn on top of the building instead of inside it where the actual Gateway is.)
