With the addition of Armor trims, there millions of ways to customize your armor visually. But what about modifying their specific traits?
My idea is that there is a rare chance (like getting a heavy core) that you can receive a new item called the Armor Catalyst. These drop very, very rarely and you can only get 3-5 of them per world. The idea is that these Catalysts would be used in a smithing table, to add new modifiers / abilities to the armor / armor piece.
The modifier would be decided by the material used.
Iron: Adds +2 armor value
Copper: 1-2% chance to "stun" an opponent on hit, making it so they can only move in very short bursts for a couple seconds
Gold: Piglins no longer attack you
Redstone: Right clicking a redstone wire will send a short burst of power through it
Quartz: Gives nearby entities glowing (radius 4-5 blocks)
Lapis: Gives the armor slightly higher enchantability
Emerald: Gives villager prices a very slight discount
Amethyst: Heal very slightly faster (like regeneration 0.5 but you need saturation)
Diamond: + 0.2 attack speed
Netherite Ingot: + 0.5 attack damage and + 50 durability
Most of these are small additions that could give a slight advantage, but combining multiple armor pieces could have interesting effects. The Armor Catalyst also drops into your inventory when the armor breaks, making it invinsible in a way. The Armor Catalyst can also be removed with a grindstone or other way easily, but resources spent will not be given back.
