Horses in general feel pretty under-utilized, and generally I think that there's very small upgrades that could be done to them that would tap into this very underrepresented but sizable group of players that go nuts over anything related to horses and horse games.
One of these features that would be 'herding' with your horses. The feature would be fairly simple, but would add a breath of life to horses in MC: whenever you're riding a horse and you approach certain livestock animals (cows, sheep, llamas), they are "deterred" by the horse, walking away from it.
This "deterring" would be soft, as in it wouldn't be a force field around the horse, but it would allow players to nudge groups of animals in a general direction if the player swerves and weaves through the livestock. Leads currently allow you to drag animals one at a time, and this feature would likely be slightly slower than pulling with a lead by force, but it would break even by allowing you to guide more animals with less resources.
It would enhance horse functionality, making them feel less useless than they do now (terrain is inaccessible to riders a lot of the time, maybe add abandoned paths?) and adding some more 'life' to the world for immersion's sake.
