The introduction of the mace weapon opens the door to discussion about the role of positioning in combat. The falling mechanic damage-boost has brought the player's position into account in PvE and PvP scenarios - and the addition of the Wind Burst enchantments (and chaining attacks in the air) adds the nuance of crowd control and enemy positioning. My mind went to the fishing rod as a good parity to these considerations. The fishing rod is a common tool for pre-1.9 PvP, used to control the other's position. Additionally, we've seen fishing rods used to fling entities high in the sky, if the player with the fishing rod is positioned high above. HOWEVER, close range, these features lack combat viability.
To change this, when a fishing rod with Lure hooks on to an entity/player, the amount the mob is pulled towards the player increases. This scales with higher levels of Lure (i.e. Lure I increases pull by 15%, Lure III by 45%). Additionally, Knockback on a fishing rod should be applied to the bob, not just left-clicking. When the bobber hits an entity, the enemy recoils more that if it had been hit with a standard rod. These two mechanics would be mutually exclusive (like Smite & Sharpness on swords)
This could be extended to tridents with too! Knockback enchantments apply to thrown tridents, and tridents thrown with loyalty 'pulling' entities towards the player - functioning identical to the fishing rod (either under Lure, or as an added feature to Loyalty, scaling with levels).
