For this you would need a special type of smithing template called reinforcement template if you are using any armor other than netherite you use an iron ingot with the smithing template it would just add a literal silver lining to armor and give the armor more durability and knockback resistance which REALLY helps helmets and for speckled armor you use the reinforcement template on netherite armor with a gold ingot it only adds slightly more durability but piglins (other than brutes) respect you
