There wont be an option to choose classes at the beginning of the game, instead the player will be able to choose their own path grinding for different play styles. For example a warrior will want to collect enchantments for their sword and melee weapons. A wizard on the other hand will focus on items that grand them buffs encouraging a different combat style.
This system can be expanded more. For example there can be fishermen and farmer or miner classes, each one of them will have different buffs and skills. This will be useful especially on multiplayer worlds encouraging players to form communities and go on adventures together.
Of course we must keep in mind that the player as is now is already pretty strong and op so making him more strong will ruin the experience. What I suggest is making the default player weaker (reducing/nerfing ability to sprint, carry items, use certain weapons with accuracy, having different/weaker luck status etc.) This way players will be encouraged to choose a play style and a class that fits the activities they are engaging with at a certain moment.
The players will be able to change their class anytime they want as long as they have the right gear, armor, weapons, items or whatever that class is centered around.
I believe a class system will improve the progression of the game giving emphasis on the mid and late game expirience making them more rewarding and last longer.
