As a way of balancing out the Mace’s considerable power, and to make its behavior style more unique compared to the other melee weapons, I believe the Mace should need to be “charged up”, aka raised above the player’s head, and timed correctly in order to inflict critical damage, or in order to activate another specialized attack. If you look at how horse jumping works in Minecraft, where the player needs to charge up and time the jump correctly in order to reach maximum height, I think this same charging / timing system should be applied to the Mace attack. I think this would better fit the way a heavy Mace would be utilized in real life, a bit slow and lumbering but devastating, and would help make the Mace skill set more unique, unlike any other melee weapon.
