The new weapon is a welcomed way to diversify combat. However, it feels out of place being only one mace type. So I came up with ideas on possible new maces to be introduced in earlier and later stages.
Add Variants
The idea is to add more maces sprinkled through various stages of the game so that new players are made aware of a new fighting mechanic early on. Of course, being the main trophy for the Trial Chambers, THE Mace will still need to be unique and special. So I have come up with 2 ideas.
First idea is pretty standard and safe by following the normal progression of items; wood, stone, iron, up to diamond and netherite. Damage scales but main difference between these maces and THE Mace is that they don't negate fall-damage.
Second idea is using skulls to craft new maces which will give off their own unique effect after dealing heavy attacks but still not negating fall damage.
Sticks and Skulls
Zombie - Damage low, chance to drop rotten flesh
Skeleton - Low, chance to drop bonemeal
Creeper - Low, chance to drop gunpowder
Steve/others - Low, chance to drop iron nuggets
Piglin - Low, chance to drop gold nuggets
Wither Skeleton - Medium, causes wither-effect in aoe, could increase damage by crafting with more wither heads
Slime Block - Lowest, Allows user to bounce back up
Dragon - High, applies dragon-breath on ground
Shulker - Medium, placeable and used as small storage, causes levitation in aoe
Skull of Dinnerbone - Low, Flips the player upside-down after using heavy attack
