Glass is a universally loved block, in all its tints and shades, and has uses in such an enormous variety of builds it is probably one of the most useful additions to the game of all time. The idea of shattered glass and glass shards has been kicking about on the FAQ's for a while, but in reading I've had a couple thoughts that could work well if Mojang were to adopt it.
Were glass able to be broken into shards (in their respective colours) if broken by the incorrect tool, it would be nice to have the ability to place said shards down as a 'Broken Glass' tile, much like snow or carpet tiles.
Such a tile could be added to the existing Abandoned Villages around window frames, and could function similarly to Cactus, Berry Bushes or Magma Blocks, where stepping on them would cause minimal damage (though this could be mitigated by wearing any armor type in the foot slot). Functionally, it could be considered similar to caltrops, though honestly the damage idea is just a whim.
What interests me in the idea of such a tile is the use for decoration. Glass shards would add a new layer to the idea of vitrification in builds where scorched earth, by meteorites or lava meeting sand, features heavily, and could even just be a fun way to add a 'shiny/glitter' decoration to areas around builds in general.
All in all, I feel it would be nice as an addition, much like the amethyst crystal have been in the past. That's just what's kicking around in my head, though. Let me know what you think!
