Wolves are Not Feral Dogs

Wolves are being re-textured? Great! While you are at it, please change the name from "wolf" to "feral dog" or "stray dog" or anything else!

Wolves are NOT dogs. Wolves cannot be tamed. Calling the cute Minecraft best friends "wolves" is spreading misinformation. In real life, people do try to keep wolves or wolf hybrids as pets. These animals are wild and there are numerous tragic incidents of fatalities, attacks, and animal cruelties.

Wolves are my favourite animals. I've been to a wolf sanctuary full of hybrid wolf-dogs with the scars of their abuse due to people thinking they could keep them as pets, and then going to extremes to contain these wild animals. We need people to stop thinking wolves are just big dogs! Wolves are not dogs!

Minecraft is about all education, right? Bees were added to bring awareness to declining bee numbers. So why is Minecraft promoting the dangerous idea that you could keep a wolf as a pet? The solution is so simple. Just change the name to "stray dog"!

I see your point as I also know the danger of misrepresenting wolves as dogs or vice versa. I love wolves and they are my favourite animal too, but I would think it's obvious that you can't go tame a wolf and for it to make a good pet like it does in Minecraft. Now they could do the same thing like they did with ocelots with wolves. Make wolves a separate mob that you can tame but will not follow you around and act like a dog, and make dogs a separate mob, which would be fine, but I don't see it making much of a difference in the grand scheme of things. I'm sure it would be much more effective to spread info on social media and talk to people about wolf misinformation/ the differences between dogs and wolves to help them or volunteer at a wolf sanctuary.
