Wolf variants were finally announced today, and me and I’m sure a lot of other people were thrilled that our canine friends can now have some different variations, there was one in particular that stood out to me. The ‘Striped Wolf.’ It is very clearly an Aardwolf. (or possibly a Striped Hyena, but probably the former due to its naming) Aardwolves are a species of Hyena native to Eastern and Southern Africa. (Striped Hyenas are native to Northern Africa, through the Middle East and into parts of Asia) Hyenas are NOT canids. They are not in the dog and wolf family. They cannot breed. Hyenas are part of the Hyenidae family. They are their own thing. If the ‘Striped Wolf’ can breed and have offspring with the other wolves, it would make about zero biological sense. Now obviously, this is Minecraft, not everything has to make sense. But in this case I think if you’re going to add an Aardwolf, make it its own mob. It would actually be a pretty good contender for a Savannah update. In its place, you could change its skin to look possibly like a Coyote, a North American canid that CAN breed with wolves. It would fit the wooded mesa aesthetic really well, because deserts and forests are their two ideal habitats.
