With the 1.21 update giving some love to wolves for the first time since colored collars in 1.4, now is a great time to add representation for players’ real-life pets like we have for cats, horses, and parrots. By breeding two wolves using specific food items, the player can get different types of dogs as offspring (using different food on each parent results in a regular wolf). This Idea works better with the Shepperd’s Cane
Beef: A breed for combat (E.g. St. Bernard)
- Deals significantly more damage than a regular wolf
- Slower movement speed due to large size
- More health than a wolf or less health? This breed should have some sort of drawback to prevent it from being a strict upgrade to the wolf, perhaps it’s not able to wear armor
Pork: A breed for exploration (E.g. Bloodhound)
- Right-click on this dog with an item to have it start “tracking” certain mobs and structures
- Right-click on this dog with a treasure map for it to start “tracking” the treasure
- Digs up dirt and sand along with the player to help clear an area faster
- Points to a chest containing the item its owner is holding to help sort and search through an abundance of chests
Mutton: A breed for utility (E.g. Border Collie)
- Right-click on this breed with a mob drop in the player's hand (E.g. gray wool) to have it start herding all mobs of that type
- Sort out mixed mobs, like different colors of sheep.
- Roundup un-leadable mobs in a more beginner-friendly way minecarts and boats
