/gamerule hardcore

Determines if the world is in hardcore mode. Defaults to true for hardcore worlds, and false for non-hardcore worlds on world creation. If true, your heart texture changes to hardcore hearts and dying in any gamemode makes you respawn in spectator mode.

  • Hardcore can still be enabled on world creation, but the gamerule itself is not visible on the Create New World screen.
  • Worlds with world tag hardcore value 0 gets the gamerule hardcore false by default. This is to avoid breaking existing survival or creative worlds, so the player can still respawn normally after death.
  • Worlds with world tag hardcore value 1 or more gets the gamerule hardcore true by default. This is to avoid hardcore worlds from becoming normal survival worlds.
  • The old hardcore world tag will become depreciated or deleted on hardcore tag conversion to a gamerule as a result.
