Currently, using the enchanting table is an unfair gamble. To add a bit more strategy, putting an enchanted book into a chiseled bookshelf surrounding an enchanting table (what a mouthful haha) would increase not only the chances of it appearing again when enchanting, but also enchants that are similar... Since it would be super tedious to gather multiple books to influence an enchanting table only to want to enchant an item that's incompatible with the book, thereby needing to swap out all the books or having to build multiple enchanting setups which is just no fun. Here's a few examples of related enchantments (Some will be in multiple categories)
- Elemental - Fire Aspect, Flame, Fire Protection, Blast Protection; OR Aqua Affinity, Respiration, Riptide, Frost Walker, Depth Strider, Lure, Luck of the Sea
- Resourcefulness - Looting, Fortune, Silk Touch, Lure, Luck of the Sea
- AOE Damage - Sweeping Edge, Multishot, Piercing, Riptide
- All Purpose - Unbreaking, Mending, Curse of Vanishing
The more enchanted books that are in the chiseled bookshelves, the higher the chances will be. Chiseled bookshelves can be used in conjunction with regular bookshelves that increase the tier of enchants, making players think critically and choose if they want a more guaranteed enchant type, higher tier enchants all around, or something in between. In general, this system would allow for the enchanting table to better compete with other reliable methods like using anvils or villager trading.
