Playstation version of LAN play should not require ps plus

I don't use psn's online service, I just connect to a LAN game host, so why do I need ps plus, which prevents me from playing with my friends.

    I completely agree it is ridicules that you have to pay a fee to play on your own local network

    Agree with this suggestion. Per discussion with PlayStation support, PS Plus is not required from their side to play LAN games. Minecraft adds extra requirements in order to be able to play on LAN. This implementation is at odds with PS. Please update Minecraft to remove checks for PS+ to be able to join LAN games. I spent weeks troubleshooting and going back and forth between Minecraft and PlayStation to identify the root cause of being unable to connect.

    We have two PS4 consoles in the same home, connected to the same Wi-Fi network. We own Minecraft and simply want to play together on our local network (LAN).

    However, when we try to activate multiplayer, Minecraft immediately sends us to the PlayStation Plus subscription page.

    We are NOT trying to play online, use Realms, or connect to external servers. We only want to play between two PS4 consoles on our own private home network.

    PlayStation's own official Minecraft information states that PS Plus is not required for LAN multiplayer between separate consoles on the same network.

    Therefore, Minecraft appears to be performing an additional PS Plus check that incorrectly blocks LAN gameplay.

    Why should players have to pay for a subscription just to play a game they have already purchased on two consoles in their own home?

    Please remove the PS Plus requirement/check for LAN multiplayer on PlayStation and restore proper local network multiplayer.

    LAN means Local Area Network. It should not be treated as online multiplayer.

    This issue has been reported for years and is still happening in 2026. Please fix this.
