Easier less gruesome ways to get black dye

I would like a way to get black dye that didn't involve the death of a mob or mobs... so far the only way to get it is through a squid or spawning the wither to let them unalive a bunch of mobs.

while farms exist it would be so much more convenient to have an alternative. Doesn't have to be a flower or anything new, heck even making black dye from coal as an option would be fine by me.
