With how much of the human population requires glasses (~75%), it would only be right to represent this group within Minecraft. So, I propose an idea for an upcoming April Fools Update where when a player logs into the game, their vision is randomly altered (on a player by player basis across all of their worlds or on a world by world basis, different for each player on the world) to much different than usual, and the only way to correct their vision is with glasses. Specifically, glasses with the correct prescription for the player’s vision issue.
Ideas for vision alteration:
- Super low/super high render distance that can’t be changed
- Spirals/polka dots on screen
- Blurriness after some distance
- Random black spots on screen
- Vision degeneration (progressively gets worse under certain conditions)
- Super saturated colors
- Variations on color blindness
- X-ray vision (seeing the insides a mob/block directly in front of you; ex. zombie guts)
- Nausea and blindness as they are in the game
- Hallucinations
- Vision randomly cuts out for 3-20 sec
- Night/underwater vision
- Echolocation; dark screen, but the outlines of blocks are highlighted in white when you make a noise/press a key
- Panorama vision
- Split vision
Clicking F3 gives info about the vision issue and the prescription needed to fix it. The rarity of these conditions can vary, and the rarer the condition, the harder it is to obtain the glasses, and the more they require the player to face their vision issue.
