Split Slab Textures

Crouching while placing slabs prevents the textures from combining into a full block. Or remove that entirely because in what circumstance do you actually need a double slab that looks identical to a normal block? I wanted to use double polished deepslate slabs for a build until I saw that they combine into a "full" polished deepslate block.
