Durability in Minecraft is a heated topic ever since the addition of Mending. Mending essentialy removed durability system all together which is not a good thing, but that system itself is not perfect either. I came with ideas that would improve the system overall.
First of all, just the existance of Mending oboletes repairing at anvil and Unbreakable enchant by making items truly unbreakable. This is not a case when Mending is out of equation, Unbreakable only adds a lot more but not infinite uses before the item requires to be repaired and anvils can only repair an item limited times, with each being more expensive.
Mending on the other hand does everything and more than them combined as you can basically forget about durability all together as everything is done on its own, you just have to play.
My idea to enhance the system would be as follows:
- Repairing at an anvil will always cost 3 materials that the items is made from and 2 levels.
- Mending gets reworked: Now has 2 tiers, each tier would reduce the amount of materials needed when repairing items by 1, Mending II also reduced the level cost to 1.
- All items abroad gets 4x more durability than currently.
This will make players not forced to hunt for Mending, they do not need to be scared of using their tools and in turn breaking them. More durability means more time of usage, unlimited and easy to understand repairs makes it more interactive and understandable and new Mending means nothing is lost when updating.
