when an item breaks in minecraft, it just vanishes and there is no way to get it back. this usually isn’t a big deal, but if u manage to get a diamond pickaxe or something, it can be a real pain when it breaks. especially if u have some enchantments on it like efficiency, unbreaking, protection, etc. so, like the elytra which doesn’t disappear when it’s broken, just remains able to be repaired, the “rebirth” enchantment will make it so when applied to anything that can be enchanted (besides elytras) when that item breaks, it doesn’t just disappear, instead it appears broken like the elytra and can’t be used. but with the help of using the ore that the item is made of (diamonds for diamond tools, etc) in an anvil, the item will be repaired a certain amount. this can also work with combining the broken item with the same item, combining their durability. so for example if both items are broken and combined in an anvil the result will be an item with like 5 durability or something. or if u have a broken item and combine it with that same item but repaired the result will be that item but with a combination of their durability. the rebirth enchantment will stay on the item if the items are combined with an anvil, but the will disappear if the items are combined with a crafting table. this enchantment will allow players to keep their prized items, but unlike mending they can be kept even after they completely break and given a second chance if the rebirth enchantment is applied.
