You know what makes the games more lively and challenging? Make the game have a lot to do before coming to the End.
It would be fun if there's a boss you'll have to defeat before moving to another. For example a guide villager talks about a certain monster on the swamp biome that is holding a key item and then you went there in search for that boss. After defeating it you unlock new crafting recipes to improve your equipments and certain accessories. After that you'll move on searching for another boss that for example a pillage raid that needed to defeat and after clearing it you'll unlock a final boss of the beginning of the game. Then you entered a hardmode where you'll have to defeat more bosses, collect or farm better equipments, acquiring more Key items, completing some quest from a quest villager, and learning the game world history. Until you've reached the Nether where you'll have to defeat you guessed it.. another boss! And after clearing it.. congratulations you unlocked Nether equipments! and more crafting recipes! And then you return grinding and completing more quest and defeating certain bosses in the nether and eventually you finally reached the End. Of course you do not start infront of a Ender dragon that would be easy! Instead you'll start by traveling around the end and finding that dragon egg to spawn it using err.. whatever you collected from the key items and there you go! You managed to summon the Ender dragon and all you have to do is to defeat it.
