Naturally growing plant foods

I'd like to be able to find food plants in the wild, and have some be biome dependent and/or sparser growing in some biomes than others, such as is currently the case with mushrooms.  Potatoes and carrots could probably grow many places, and beets are known to grow in harsh environments.  Hay/wheat may be restricted to more temperate climates.  If we had bananas or sweet potatoes it would make sense to find them in the jungle.
