There are many voices speaking out about wanting to revert the change done to copper bulbs in the latest snapshot, and I want to speak on a point brought up in Minecraft Live this year.
This update was shown to have a focus on tinkering. So far that focus seems to involve introducing new tools to tinkerers who enjoy playing with every little part of the game. To develop blocks or items that will let us do things in ways we never could before and make things more accessible to the average player. It seems against that mentality to introduce a new tool in the Copper Bulb, albeit already incredibly powerful in its ability to maintain state, and then change it's unique 1-tick delay to make it more "consistent". Is the goal not to break away from consistency?
There are currently multiple ways in game to introduce a 1-tick delay to a circuit, but none so compact as what was possible with the Copper Bulb in the previous snapshot. Why force players to use already known techniques in limiting ways when there is the opportunity to allow them to tinker and innovate with a brand new tool? It feels as if we were given a new rubber ball to play with and then had it cut into a cube so that it would fit in the box with our wooden blocks. It does its own thing and does it well, allows for creative tinkering, and has in a matter of weeks inspired redstone-focused players to create never-before seen things. I can only ask this change be reverted so we can continue to make and inspire in new ways.
