Dimensional beacon to eliminate debug screen portal linking

Using the debug screen is not very minecraft, to the point that it is considered cheating in some circles. 

However, efficient portal linking has no other mechanic for properly aligning portals

So, I propose a block, as hard to get as the beacon, that has no beneficial status effects, but creates a beacon-like beam 16 blocks in each direction in the nether and the overworld from itself, once placed in either dimension and powered up with an appropriate structure.

This will allow players to see the exact  location of a perfectly aligned portal across dimensions, and then align, or misalign portals for their required use case

If this beam, or it's origin is detectable by observers, then, combined with the copper redstone lamp, this would also allow interdimensional redstone as a secondary benefit.
