This totem, when used, will save the player's life in addition to damaging any mobs in the vicinity. However, when a player is saved from death by a Totem of Withering, it changes how the player must survive afterwards. The player would be converted to an undead entity. As such, the player has no hunger bar. Instead, the player must gain XP in order to regenerate health, signifying the way undead mobs attack other mobs and the player for no apparent reason. Additionally, the player would burn when in direct contact with the sun, would be damaged by healing potions, and strengthened by weakness potions, all traits of undead mobs. This idea was originally proposed by SimplySarc.
I see no reason why anyone would want to craft this if a normal Totem is part of the recipe, since it would be better to use a normal Totem. Therefore, in order for the Totem of Withering to actually be used, it would have to either be a drop that is easier to come by, or craftable with other replenishable items, maybe like a Wither Skeleton Skull and a Ghast tear surrounded by Soul Sand.
