Lava immunity while touching a portal block

I made a portal in the Nether and when it initially generated me in, I was already dead because the portal generated next to a flowing lava source that touched the portal. I would like it if that wasn’t possible, or if touching a portal block made you immune to dying from a source you can’t control when you first make a nether portal.
