Let's talk about the new Copper and Tuff Blocks!

Hot on the heels of last week's Crafter snapshot/preview debut, we're bringing you another set of 1.21 features to try out - new copper and tuff blocks! 

In Update 1.21, the copper block family will be expanded to include Chiseled Copper, Copper Grate, Copper Door and Copper Trapdoor. We're also introducing a new light source in the form of the Copper Bulb which, along with the other new copper blocks, can, of course, be oxidized and waxed.

Tuff will be getting its own family of craftable blocks as well, including Stair, Slab, Wall, and Chiseled variants. These variants also apply to Tuff Bricks and Polished Tuff, and all of these can be crafted with the stonecutter. For more details on the new blocks, check out the changelogs linked further down in this post!

As with last week, we would love to hear your feedback on these new blocks! Aside from your general thoughts, we're also wondering:

    Please revert the copper bulb so it has a 1 game tick delay again.

    Please add a copper ladder. It could be a bit faster to climb and much faster to descend (slide down) to make it different from the wood ladder. With the grate block and some copper fences and thin grate slabs, it could make a nice factory feel in the builds.

    Since you awesome Lovely Devs are adding more to copper in 1.21. Please add copper tools but make them have a around the same durability as iron. But the catch would be you cant get diamonds with the copper pickaxe. The copper axe would have less durability then the iron axe but deal more damage same with the sword. Some seeds its pretty hard to get iron when speed running  so more alternatives would really be cool to have plus another tool to use so were not stuck with stone tools for to long and another sweet sweet advancement to get early game to . To complete the set Please add copper armor to please!!  :)

    Please make copper trapdoor recipe at least with cut copper blocks or cut copper slaps

    In addition to the copper grates being water-loggable, it would be cool if they also let water flow through them or even better just allow water to flow to adjacent copper grates. It would be even cooler if they also also let item-entities through them and centered them in the block. This would be nice for making pipes for item streams and aligning falling items coming out of the crafter.

    There should be cracked and mossy versions of tuff bricks.

    Replying to the above/previous, a mossy variant would be great for chambers that intersect with lush caves and otherwise be aesthetically nice since tuff is already green-ish.

    Copper grates feel like they should be capable of doing something useful, but they dont. Here's my suggestion: Have them be able to let water flow through them, but not let players through. To my knowledge, this would be the only full block to be able to do this.

    I LOVE the idea of these new blocks! Especially Tuff as you couldn't previously do anything with it. But copper is great to. But even though I love these new blocks, I wish you could actually do something adventure/gamewise instead of just building. All I know that copper can do that's not building is probably the Lightning Rod.

    New cosmetic blocks look good, especially in weathered copper for combination with darker browns. Bit on the expensive side though, each trapdoor requires 27 copper ingots, making it impractical to use in the same frequency as other trapdoor variants. Replacing blocks with ingots in the recipe would be appropriate.

    Loving all the new blocks added! Is there any chance of mossy variants of the Tuff Bricks or even adding Mossy Deepslate Bricks, continuing that of Mossy Cobblestone and Mossy Stone Bricks?

    The Copper Bulb seems very useful for Redstone. However I think the crafting recipe doesn’t make very much sense. I think it should be crafted similarly to a Redstone Lamp with a Redstone Lamp in the center and four Copper Ingots surrounding it.

    I think Copper Doors should function like an Iron Door. I also think that the fully oxidized variant should stop working, similarly to the concept the Copper Golem had.

    Copper buttons and funnels could be improved versions. Copper buttons could have no cooldown, while hoppers could be made from a copper block, passing items at twice the speed of common hopper

    If you've added better copper and tuff to be in the Trial Chambers (really cool structure btw), why not add the copper and tuff golems into that structure?

    Mojang, you have players who build but you also have players who explore and survive. Copper needs more of a use outside of building blocks, lightening rods, spyglasses and brushes. Players like me completely avoid copper to reduce waste in our chests after we have acquired the only tools you can make with them. Make copper more relevant by using them in more tools and helpful items

    I think expanding the copper and tuff family is really great!

    Remember that I always welcome new block variants and love them too, but I have some suggestions that could improve and expand them even more :

    Tuff related:

    1. The gaps between the individual bricks are too dark compared to other bricks and tuff blocks
    2. Tuff bricks should have mossy and cracked versions like the stone brick block
    3. the “normal” chiselled tuff should be crafted from two polished tuff slabs
    4. (nether bricks and red nether bricks are upside down like the tuff bricks used to be. Pls also fix them so they line up with normal bricks!)

    Copper related:

    1. There should be a copper nugget (iron and gold have one so pls make it consistent now)
    2. New copper buttons for the Trial Chambers (or turn the oak ones to bamboo)
    3. (Since it’s mostly build from copper) a new flamed or burned copper variant exclusive for the TC
    • copper oxidises in fire to copper-II-oxide in real world which would be quite cool to have
    • this would be a more silver colored type so we could have dark grey doors and trapdoors! (it still has a shine though)
    • It’s non-waxable/scrapeable.
    • The copper bulbs could emit a light level between the weathered and oxidised versions.                       
    • AND you would have to go to the Trial chambers to obtain these blocks (cause there is no burning mechanism in game) which makes them even better!

    • My idea for new block: Copper Pistons!
    • New type of pistons with that t flip flop feature, just like the copper bulbs.
    • This new pistons allows players simplify redstone contraptions.
    • Allows new Minecraft players to understand easily the wonders of redstone with out being afraid of the complexity.
    • More uses to Honey (This new sticky piston should be crafted with honey bottle instead of slime ball)
    • More uses to Copper ingot, instead of iron in the recipe.
    • Instead of use Cobblestone, this new pistons could be crafteable with Cobbled Deepslate.
    • This pistons could add new unimaginable redstone contraptions.
    •  This pistons could spawn in the trial chambers in the secret rooms
    •  Coppers Pistons could help to build new decorations and explore more the imagination of building players.

    Please revert the copper bulb to run on 1 game tick. Changing it for the sake of "consistency" with other blocks doesn't make any sense; as a playerbase we want unique, innovative new redstone technology instead of rehashes of older redstone blocks. There are nearly no odd restone components in the game and making it easier to access odd ticks via redstone would be game-changing.

    The copper doors and trapdoors should use ingots instead of blocks... Make it consistent with iron for crying out loud, it so expensive! 6 full blocks of copper should not make 2 trapdoors. :/

    Just a simple polish and change for this one. The crafting recipe for the Copper Trap Doors don't mirror the ones with the Iron Trap Doors or practically any Trap Doors even though its behaviour is just like regular Trap Doors. Instead of 6 full blocks of Copper, use 6 Copper Ingots instead. The Iron Trap Door uses 6 Iron Ingots. It adds a good reason to use Copper Ingots instead of making full blocks of Copper. It does look very nice elsewhere. The Copper Grate is my favorite, we need more blocks that we can see through like that which feels like you're walking on scaffolding.
