What it says in the Title.
Remove (or adjust) the XP cost for repairing items in an anvil.
- It would remove Mending as a necessity (and make the Villager Rework more Viable)
- It would make enchantments more viable in early game
- It would give Diamonds more of a use after completing your set of gear
This change would turn Mending into more of a Quality of Life enchantment for late-game, like kingbdogz proposed in some tweets late September 2023. It would be more about saving the material cost of maintaining gear rather than a necessity for keeping a highly enchanted item from inevitably breaking.
In my opinion it would be somewhat balanced since getting enough iron for an anvil is an early-game milestone and it also has a durability and therefore needs to be maintained.
Obviously, there are still some numbers that need to be adjusted.
There is a mod for the Java edition that explores this concept, which is quite intriguing. It is focused on a general Enchanting Overhaul.
I would highly recommend everyone to try it for themselves.
