I've been drafting up a mod that experiments around with give copper more uses, and I think I'm onto something.
Copper, as it stands, is underwhelming. Its main function is to be a building block, unique in that it's mined like iron, and needs to be smelted, and then assembled into blocks that when placed slowly change and oxidise into a different colour, which can be preveted with wax, or scrapped back with an axe. Other fuctions are lightning rods, that redirect lighting away from your builds, the spyglass, which gives players a zoom function, and the brush, used for archeology. This cements copper as more of a "utlity" resource, which I had to keep in mind when thinking of new features, which ment scrapping ideas like copper or rose gold tools, (as cool as rosegold equiptment might be).
Obviously I would love to see more building blocks, doors, lanterns and chains, fences/walls added, as that is what copper is mainly used for, building. Other ideas included copper rails, that support higher speeds then iron, but degrade, and get slower as more oxide builds up, (maybe minecarts with the same idea?). A reinforced crossbow could be cool too, more damage and abiltiy to be repaird with copper, but also able to use a new arrow, the copper bolt, made of copper and amethyst, which has armor peircing capabilities. This helps crossbows feel like a good trade-off too the bow, being more expensive and slower, but more powerful. I had more ideas but I'm running out of characters. :) xox
