In the official Minecraft Launcher, we have just released a new, experimental feature we’re calling “Quick Play.”
This feature takes the five most recent Minecraft worlds in which you’ve played and makes it possible for you to jump right back into those worlds via a “Quick Play” bar you can access in the top right corner of your Launcher screen.
As this is a new and still-experimental feature, if you want to give it a try, you can go into the Launcher “General” Settings tab, scroll down to the “Experimental Features” section, and click the “Enable Experimental Quick Play feature” option. Once you do, on the Java tab you will see a new slide out “bar” icon in the upper right corner of the Launcher. Click the Quick Play bar icon and in it you will see your five most recent worlds that you will now be able to jump directly into from the Launcher.
We want to hear your feedback as we continue to fine-tune the Quick Play feature. We really want to know what you think and how this feature set works for you, so please feel free to add your comments and thoughts under this post – but along with your general feedback, we also have some specific questions we’d like you to consider:

We are exploring bringing this feature set to Bedrock, but for right now, this is only available for Minecraft: Java Edition.

What do I have to do to make Java Quick Play work?
- Just turn on the Quick Play option from within your Launcher’s “General” Settings section and it should be available. The next time you play a world, after playing this world will show up in your Quick Play bar. Eventually, we plan to make this feature generally available – but for the purposes of trying out this new, experimental feature, we’ve gated it under this setting for now.
How do I enable this feature in Launcher Settings?
- In your Launcher, click “Settings” at the bottom left of the screen. Then, on the Launcher’s “General” Setting page, scroll down to the bottom to find the new “Experimental Features” section. Toggle the “Enable experimental Quick Play feature” on.
What makes a world show up in the Quick Play bar?
- Quick Play presents your 5 most recent worlds. Once you play in a given world, it will show up in the Quick Play bar when you’re done playing. However, there’s only room for 5 worlds in the Quick Play bar, so if you have 5 worlds present already and play a different one, this newest world will bump your oldest world from the list when it shows up.
How do I remove worlds from my Quick Play bar?
- At present, the only way to move a world out of your Quick Play is to play enough other worlds such that a world currently showing up in your bar is pushed out.
Will this work for Bedrock as well?
- No, for now this will only work for Java Edition. Similarly, Java Realms is Quick play enabled right now, whereas Bedrock Realms is not Quick Play enabled at this stage.
What versions of Minecraft: Java Edition support Quick Play?
- Quick Play as a feature is supported in Java 1.20 or later only.
What if I only play on a version of Minecraft: Java Edition that does not support Quick Play?
- A Quick Play icon will still show up in the Quick Play bar for this gameplay – but when clicked it will just launch that Java version outright, without deeplinking directly into a specific world.
What else can I do with Quick Play?
- You can pin worlds that you want to remain in the Quick Play bar even if you add new worlds, and you can customize the icons for worlds that show up using different block art present in the Launcher.
What types of worlds can I join via Quick Play?
- Single player worlds; server-hosted worlds; and Realms-hosted worlds can all be Quick Played.
Where is Quick Play storing my data? Is my data being stored in the cloud?
- We do not store your Quick Play data in the cloud; your data is only stored on your local machine’s .minecraft folder. This also means if you play Minecraft on multiple different PCs, Quick Play will only show gameplay you access on each respective PC.
