One of the lead developers "Jeb_" has said before that the current combat system is weak and impractical, This new combat system will change that.
You can hold your attack button to charge attack.
Unechanted Shields can be disarmed by dealing over 10 damage in one hit, they will be disarmed for 5 seconds.
Explosions cannot disarm shields.
Enchantments for shields can make it so they are harder to disarm and/or make it so it is not disarmed for as long as usual.
When an entity is attacked when they are red they cannot take damage from other entities but can take damage from hunger, blocks, and effects.
Different melee weapons will have different range.
Sword: 3.0 blocks
Axe: 2.5 blocks
Pickaxe 2.5 blocks
Shovel: 2.5 blocks
Farming Hoe: 3.5 blocks
Trident/Spears 4.0 blocks
Non-Melee Weapons/items: 2.0 blocks
These Ranges will also apply to mobs.
Zombiefied mobs will wait 3 seconds before attacking
