Cartographers have been in game since 1.11 we have many more structures and with archaeology they could sell maps for you to find dig sites.

  I like this idea.
  Taking advantage of the new mechanics with the villagers based on the biomes. Each type of villager could offer a different map. Example:

  Desert: Desert Temples
  Jungle: Jungle pyramids
  Swamp: Swamp Huts
  Snowy: Ancient City
  Taiga: Trail Ruins
