Semi-support. I like certain ideas (like the gold and emerald ones), but they'd all have to be balanced. The redstone trim ability would break a lot of contraptions.

Redstone - Quicker regeneration when near redstone blocks. (better with each piece)

Copper - Higher chance of lightning striking the area around you. (better with each piece)

    Gold - Calms piglins.

Emerald - Lowers villager trades by 5% each. (better with each piece)

Diamond - Better chance of finding ore veins. (better with each piece)

Lapis - Lowers enchantment lapis requirements by 5% each. (better with each piece)

Amethyst - Makes music when walking. Instrument depends on ground material. (only for boots)

Quartz - Higher chance of better loot. (better with each piece)

    Iron - Improved tool durability.

Netherite - When you're on fire, the flames go out quicker.

Let armor trim work like a reforging that improves some stats at the expense of others.
For example, we could forge spikes on boots so that movement on the ice is slip-free and faster, in return, sneaking will be louder due to the sound of spikes.
Or a visor on a helmet, improves protection, but reduces the field of view.

    Too unbalanced, it's intentionally cosmetics.

I think it would fit better if it went for the trim type you are using, not the material
