I recall watching The Warden being shown off and a player using snowballs to distract it. I remember discussing with my friends about how the unique sound mechanic would work.
However, when I experienced it in-game, I came to a shocking realization. The Warden was just a strong mob.
Nothing about the warden is unique. It spawns, it kills you, you respawn and go again. Except- you get NOTHING for beating it. You don't even get a trophy. Instead, it is supposed to be an avoidable "force-of-nature".
But it isn't avoidable. When you spawn it, it will stay there and kill you over and over again with no escape. Even if you hold still, staying quiet, its " sniffing" mechanic (which is just normal mob pathfinding) will find you anyways. Am I supposed to believe actual work went into designing this mechanic? I believe its more of that Mojang failed to perfect the sound mechanic so they recorded a few sounds, made an animation, and smacked an underdeveloped, way too powerful, worthless mob into the game.
But how could this ever be corrected?
Using a few simple suggestions. I'll rank them on how appealing they are to me.
1. Remove the sniffing mechanic. This behavior makes the fight quite unfair and hard to run from.
2. Add a functional block drop similar to the Elder Guardian.
3. A warden trophy. Something like a Warden Heart would fill the hole that defeating the warden leaves after you realize it was for nothing.
4. Make it invincible and remove the sniffing mechanic.
