Minecraft has this problem where it is hard to see differences between layers of the same block at different elevations. This makes it difficult for me and people in my family to see the depth in terrain with repeating textures, thus making it harder for us to enjoy the game.
To fix this problem, I believe that edges of blocks which are facing air should be highlighted in either a darker or lighter colour to help give a sense of depth. I know that this is possible in Minecraft because Optifine has a similar effect for connected glass blocks. Maybe you could make it toggleable in the Accessibility settings, maybe through an option called "Depth Outlines" or something similar, maybe even with an option to choose the outline strength and size.
This improvement will make it much easier to see depth and height differences on the terrain in areas like grass plains or snow biomes, especially for people like me and my mom's family who have vision problems that make it more difficult to see depth. It is a feature I believe will make the game objectively better and more playable for certain people. I do not believe it would have a negative effect on the gameplay, especially as a toggleable option. I know one of Mojang's goals at the moment is to make Minecraft more accessible to people with disabilities and impairments, and this will definitely help them play Minecraft more easily.
