I think an very basic item sorter block that works very similar to the hopper would be great. The general idea would work like a coin sorting matching, coins that match a certain size get sorted and others continue on (or fill up the sorters inventory it items have no where to go). For this new block, it would have the hopper interface, but above the 5 items slots, would be one slot for item sorting. If there is an item in the slot, it passes any of the same item down. If an item doesn't match or there are no items in the sorting slot, it sends items in the direction the player attached the block (like the directions on hoppers). It could be a fairly expensive block too. You would need a hopper, and then maybe some Redstone and stone to make it. Similar to other redstone blocks like observers or droppers This would simplify overly complicated sorting systems that cause lag and are hard to set up. It would also fix what seems to be taking advantage of an unintentionally issue with hoppers that allow them be to locked up to a certain value and could create better parity between java and bedrock.
